Sirajul Islam is a Rohingya poet and writer and was born in Arakan State, Myanmar. In August 2017, following the apocalyptic military crackdown, he was compelled to flee to and seek a shelter in neighbouring Bangladesh along with his family. He is now based in one of the makeshift camps in Cox's Bazar.
His life is shaped by injustices, apartheid and struggles for a world where he deserves life. He writes for rights and doesn't comply with acquiescence to his plight. He doesn't let his fate define him, rather perceives it the impetus to write and evolve. Through poetry, he communicates with the world and reaches where he cannot be present physically. Writing for him is a means of resilience, resistance and existence.
He has contributed to The Other Side of Hope, The Daily Star, PEN Sydney, PEN Perth, and so forth. He has internationally published two collections of poetry and is now in the preparation to publish his third collection.
